JAMES FISHWICK
Dr James R. Fishwick, BSc. PhD FIMarEST, CMarTech, CSci, CMarSci joined PML in August 2000 and has been a key member of the Western Channel Observatory (WCO) project hosted at PML. At present James has responsibility for the operational and technical management of the Western Channel Observatory programme and he is the project leader on the prestigious scientific data buoy project within the observatory. He has played an instrumental role in the design, build and continuous enhancement of the two scientific data buoys operated by PML. James has over a decade of experience in operating scientific equipment at sea and in particular on buoyed systems. James recently headed up the PML contingent to deploy a new state of the art buoy twenty miles south of Plymouth in collaboration with the UK MET office and has secured a major investment to replace the second buoy in the programme. He has 15 ISI publications and been involved in several UK, EC and US funded projects (NASA, ESA, ONR and EC Interreg).
At present James has a keen interest in autonomous systems for marine sampling, having previously authored several papers and articles on the subject he has recently submitted a book chapter entitled: The use of autonomous sampling platforms, with particular reference to moored data buoys. This chapter will be form part of a new book about sampling methodologies in the coastal and estuarine environments, published by Cambridge University press. James also heads up the autonomous sampling operations team forum within the UK Integrated Marine Observing Network (UK - IMON) initiative.
